Hit by speeding car, two die

Singjamei Police station has registered a case in connection with a road mishap that claimed two lives.

Two people died after being hit by a speeding car near the entrance gate of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West around 9 pm Thursday, sources said.

The deceased have been identified as one Pallujam Robinson, 21, son of P Bhogen from Utlou Mayai Leikai, and Keisham Kiran, 31, son of K Ibomcha from Utlou Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district, the sources said.

According to the sources, the incident took place when a speeding Honda car bearing registration number MN01G/3112 hit the motorcycle (with no registration number) with the two deceased on it that had stopped by the road as some men were working to remove the hoardings installed for Sangai Festival near Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.

As the car hit the motorcycle from behind, it killed Kiran on the spot, while Robinson succumbed to his injuries at RIMS, the sources said, adding that Robinson was driving the motorcycle which belonged to Kiran, and they were on their way home from Kwakeithel side, the sources added.

Two youths, namely Sidarth and Pibarel from Nangappi Thong, Imphal West were in the car. None of them possessed any driving licenses, the sources said.      

Singjamei Police station has registered a case in connection with the incident. The bodies are being kept at RIMS Mortuary.
