Heavy rain and windstorm on Monday damaged and flooded the school and hostel building of St Xavier’s School, a catholic missionary school at Thanlon village in Churachandpur district.
According to sources, the hostel which was accommodating around 60 students from the nearby villages was damaged and flooded, rendering the shelter inhabitable. The school structure nearby was also destroyed in the storm, it mentioned. The food grains stored in the hostel were also swept by the rainwater, the sources continued.
The sources informed that the students have been taking refuge in the nearby parish church where they also continue with their academic work.
The principal of the school Fr Roju Jose said that he is helpless as he has no means to rebuild the structures. The fate of the school is at the mercy of the state government and the well-wishers, he added.
