Heavy exchange of gunfire reported at Indo-Myanmar border

A large number of PDF and KNF (B) cadres launched an attack towards the camp of a NE outfit in Myo Thit under Sagaing Region and surrounded the camp, as per sources.

Suspected KNF (B) cadres and suspected cadres of the proscribed NE outfit have been reportedly engaged in an intense gunbattle at the Indo-Myanmar border near Kamjong district and Myanmar Border Pillar No. 90 and 91 around 12.40 am on Saturday.  

As per sources, the gunfight started a few days ago and sounds of gunshots were heard by villagers of Kamjong. Both sides have suffered casualties, sources said.

The attack was launched with sophisticated weapons, using RPGs and bombs, and the gunbattle continued over the past three days.

Unconfirmed reports said, one PDF and another KNF (B) cadre were killed while injuring about nine PDF and KNF(B) cadres in the clash.

The same sources said, two cadres of an NE insurgent outfit and two others from Myanmar Army were reportedly injured.

A post on the social media claimed that several arms and ammunitions were recovered from PDF and KNF(B) cadres.  

Meanwhile, security forces have been alerted at Kamjong district in Manipur.

On the other hand, central forces that came for reinforcement in the area were halted at Yairipok Bazaar and Napet Palli by the locals.

Sources added that the KNF (B) has now taken over the camp, while more than 400 cadres of different insurgent groups including the NSCN got scattered.

There are no reports of insurgents being captured by the Indian Army while fleeing across the border so far.

Police had no official reports on the clash as ot happened on the other side of the border.
