A joint meeting of the Zomi Chiefs' Association and the Guite Kual Chiefs' Association was held on Saturday in which the creation and nomenclature of the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Guite Kual was intensely discussed with the term ‘Guite Kual’ being a nomenclature dear to the general public of the area as it was coined by their ancestors since time immemorial.
It also encompasses a large geographical area, a part of which is located in today's southern Manipur where people of different tribes, cultures and dialects live together in peace and harmony. It was upon this historical fact that the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Guite Kual was named. The recognition and endorsement of ‘Guite Kual’ has instilled among the general public a sense of acceptance and inclusion of tribal tradition, history and culture by the Government of Manipur.
On the February 2, 2023, a Government Gazette bearing No. 323, dated 07.10.2022 surfaced on social media whereby the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Guite Kual was allegedly renamed as office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mualnuam which originally was mentioned as ADC, Guite Kual by a gazette order on 7th January, 2022.
This has stunned and angered the people of Guite Kual who were joyously celebrating only a few months back. Upon enquiry into the matter, it is observed that the re-naming was instigated by some antisocial elements without any consideration for the wishes and sentiments of the people affected. The joint meeting condemned such persons in the strongest terms and cautioned them to cease their unwarranted activities.
The joint meeting fervently urged the concerned authority to immediately revert to its pristine glorious name, "Additional Deputy Commissioner, Guite Kual" in public interest and hereby pledge that they will strive tooth and nail for the realisation of this goal.
