Governor visits Kasom Khullen, assures help to people

The governor inspected Kasom Khullen Higher Secondary School and other public facilities and their prevailing condition in Kasom Khullen, Kamjong district.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan visited Kasom Khullen Sub-Divisional headquarters in Kamjong district on Wednesday and interacted with the district level officers (DLOs), representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs), village chiefs and villagers. The governor heard the grievances raised by them and assured to extend all possible help in the larger interest of the people.

The governor inspected Kasom Khullen Higher Secondary School and interacted with students and teachers. He also inspected the ongoing construction works of the school. The governor also enquired about the prevailing condition of the Primary Health Centre, Kasom Khullen, the only health facility in the area.

Speaking at the interaction programme held at Sadbhavna Mandap at the Sub-Divisional headquarters, the governor said, he has come to the sub-division to know the problems faced by the people and to explore the ways and means to address the genuine problems.

The governor said issues related to education, healthcare, connectivity, power, etc., should be taken care of and he will look into it.

There should be proper facilities for treating patients, good infrastructure along with adequate number of teachers for teaching students, all weather roads and a clean power supply as these are the basic needs of the people.

He said that he will ask the concerned departments to look into the matter and ask Chief Minister N Biren to take necessary steps in the larger interest of the people.

Ganesan further said that the issues of drug abuse, poppy cultivation and drug trafficking have been a major issues and state government has been trying to curtail it. He stated that number of drug users particularly among the youths is increasing manifold in the last few months. This has to be, in any case, prevented with collective efforts, including the like-minded CSOs and general public.

The Governor appealed to cooperate with the government in this regard, saying that the state government has mooted taking action against the cultivation of poppy plants particularly in the hill districts. Large areas of poppy cultivation were destroyed and the movement is on.

Expressing concern over the issues of illegal migration, smuggling of drugs, weapons, sneaking insurgents etc. from neighbouring countries into our territory, the Governor said, these activities should be prevented at any cost.

He said, the government alone cannot prevent it and full cooperation from the general public is indispensable. While appealing to the people to extend full cooperation to the security forces and authority concerne dto get the crimes contained, the governor said, only then, the peace loving people of this beautiful state will be able to live peacefully.

On Covid vaccination, the governor said, vaccination is the first priority to prevent the pandemic. He appealed to the villagers to get vaccinated at least twice at the earliest.

On TB elimination, he said, the Government of India has already committed to eliminate TB from the soil of India by 2025, therefore, concerned district authorities should conduct a survey to find out TB patients to carry out remedial measures.

The Governor also spoke on the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission, to make India a clean India.

Governor felicitated Solimla Jajo of Kasom Khullen, the silver medalist at the recently concluded 54th Asian Bodybuilding Sports Championship in Maldives.

K Leishiyo, MLA, Phungyar A/C, attending the programme, said Kamjong district is trailing behind other districts in many fronts of development. He said, although the district shared international boundary with Myanmar no business activities or transactions can be taken up as there are no facilities in the district. Steps should be taken up to develop the district at par with the other districts of the state, he said.

Earlier, deputy commissioner, Kamjong, R Rang Peter made a power point presentation regarding various activities of administration and development in the district. He informed the Governor that there has been acute shortage of manpower in many sectors, including education and healthcare.

CSO leaders raised many issues and drew the attention of Governor. They also submitted memoranda to the governor.

The governor, who was accompanied by his secretary Waikhom Bobby during the visit. was accorded a warm welcome by K Leishiyo, MLA R Rang Peter, Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong, P Manjit, SP, Kamjong and other officials on his arrival at the Sub-Divisional headquarters.
