Governor La Ganesan visits Kangpokpi, takes stock of issues

Expressing concern over the increasing number of Covid cases in the state, Governor said, vaccination is the only means to fight the pandemic.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Tuesday visited Saikul sub-division in Kangpokpi district as a part of the ongoing series of visits to different districts and remote areas of the state to take stock of the issues, problems and grievances of people.  

In the interaction programme held at Hoikhonei Multipurpose Hall, Thangkanphai village in the sub-divisional headquarters of Saikul, the governor interacted with district level officers, representatives of civil society organisations and village chiefs.

Ganesan heard the issues and grievances faced by the people and assured them to take all possible steps as soon as possible.

Addressing the gathering, Ganesan said, the interaction programme was just like a Janata Darbar where people can raise their problems/issues directly to the authorities. He said, it is an opportunity through which genuine grievances can be put up to the higher authorities for necessary action.

Issues raised in the programme will be sent to the authorities concerned and if necessary to the chief minister, he said.

“As a citizen, we should respect our freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. As the nation is going to celebrate the 75th years of Independence this year, we all should work for the betterment of our country,” he said.  

Ganesan stressed that there should be inclusive development in the country. A number of schemes have been implemented and people have been benefited through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly through their bank accounts, he added.

The governor said, the banking sector is taking a lead role in this direction and all should at least open a bank account.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of Covid cases in the state, the governor said, vaccination is the only means to fight the pandemic. He further urged people to get vaccinated and stay safe.

On elimination of Tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, he asked the district administration to conduct door-to- door surveys and find out TB cases. On drug abuse and trafficking, he appealed to co-operate the government in fighting the menace and asked everyone to stand against drugs.

The governor also spoke on the importance of New Education Policy and its implementation.

MLA Kimneo Hangshing said that the maiden visit by a Governor in Saikul shows that the head of the State cares about the people there. She expressed her commitment for all round development in her constituency and the state and all should cooperate with the development works.

Earlier, Kuki Students Organisation and Kuki Inpi, Saikul submitted a memorandum to the governor and urged to address the issues at the earliest.

Deputy commissioner, Kangpokpi, Zuringla Kengoo also spoke on the importance of the interaction programme. Secretary to the governor Bobby Waikhom accompanied the governor on the visit. People from different villages of Saikul area attended the programme.
