Governor Ganesan, Chief Minister Biren extend Mera Chaoren Houba greetings

Governor La Ganesan appealed to the people to celebrate Mera Chaoren Houba festival in its true spirit, upholding the tradition of peaceful coexistence in Manipur’s pluralistic society.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh on Sunday extended greetings and well wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of the Mera Chaoren Houba.

In his message, the governor stated that the traditional festival of Mera Chaoren Houba is a festival for preserving and promoting unity and integrity among all the communities settled in Manipur. The festival is celebrated on the first day of the Mera month in the Meitei Lunar calendar, he mentioned.

This festival through the ages has withstood the test of time and has become a rallying point for the state’s unity and integrity, he added. He appealed to the people to celebrate the festival in its true spirit, upholding the tradition of peaceful co-existence in Manipur’s pluralistic society.

La Ganesan also extended well wishes for the festival to strengthen the bond of unity, integrity and understanding among the different communities for the peace and prosperity in the state.

“I have a firm belief in the oneness and brotherhood of all communities in the state, and this festival holds a special significance for each of us as it teaches us to live in perfect harmony,” chief minister N Biren stated in his message.

He continued that the progress of the state and nation depends on the peaceful coexistence of all ethnic communities. He also invited the people to pray for the strengthening of the brotherly bond amongst all communities of the state and quell any effort by vested interests to divide the state.

Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh in his message conveyed greetings to the people on the occasion. He stated that Mera Chaoren Houba is a religious festival of the Meeteis and other indigenous tribal communities, dedicated to Lord Lainingthou Sanamahi who is the supreme deity of the household and Leirarel Sidabi the goddess of earth, nature and mother goddess of all creations in the universe.

He mentioned that the festival is celebrated by offering fruits, vegetables, light and incense sticks while praying for good health and prosperity.
