The Manipur governor has assured a special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly by Friday next, said Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace.

The governor made the assurance to the womenfolk on Friday when they went to submit a memorandum at the Raj Bhavan in connection with the present crisis in the state.

The womenfolk came to Raj Bhavan with a banner that reads ‘Call for immediate assembly within one week’ with five points of demands.

The demands included: No bullet to be fired from armed individuals/groups to civilians of Manipur within two weeks; NH should remain unblocked by enforcing law; the central government must rebuild the houses to their original lands with safety and security of displaced people; the central government should provide compensation to deceased and injured individuals within 30 days; and the central government must set up review and recommended commission to elude community clash in Manipur in the future.

At least four representatives from the womenfolk were allowed to meet the governor.

Co-convenor of the committee, Dhaneshori told the media in front of Raj Bhavan that the governor informed the chief secretary of Manipur through phone in front of them to convene a special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly by Friday next.

On other demands, the governor also assured she will take necessary steps to replace the Assam Rifles with other central forces and take necessary security arrangements for return of displaced people to their place.

The womenfolk also held placard showing “Mizoram should stop double standard game”, “International and national unity is one”, “Let’s unite all Meitei, nothing can stop us from reaching our destiny”, “let’s rebuilt a better tomorrow and for thousands years to come for Manipur” among others.
