Governor Anusuiya Uikey briefed on Manipur security situation

A team of security officials assured the governor that the Army and Assam Rifles will help the civil administration in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey chaired a meeting with GOC 3 Corps lieutenant General HS Sahi, Major General Rajan Sharawat, IGAR (South) and Major General  VK Nambiar, IGAR (East), and a team of Central officers at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Thursday.

The team of security officials briefed the governor about the security situation in the state, particularly the joint combing operations carried out by the security forces and about the security measures taken up by the Army/Assam Rifles in the vulnerable areas of valley as well as in the foothills.

The officers informed the governor about the multiple medical camps organised for the affected people by the Army/Assam rifles in both the hills and valley districts, a release stated.

The team of officers assured the governor that the Army/Assam Rifles will help the civil administration in the run-up to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, it mentioned.

During the meeting with the Central team of officers led by joint secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ashish Kumar, the team apprised about the arrangements made for providing relief to violence-affected people in different relief camps in the districts and the measures taken to control price rise, the release stated.

It stated that the central team landed in Imphal a few days ago and the team visited various relief camps to enquire about the grievances faced by the people there.

The team also informed that helicopter service has also started for the people living in Moreh and Churachandpur districts as informed by the Union home minister during his visit to the state. This service will also be started for Kangpokpi district shortly, it stated.

The team also visited Khongshang railway station in Tamenglong district to take stock of the preparations which are being made to store rail-fed essential commodities.

The governor also provided suggestion on how relief and rehabilitation works for the affected people both in the hills and valley can be made easier, it added.
