The Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) on Wednesday lashed out ar the government for its alleged failure to identify illegal immigrants in the state, asserting that the same set the stage for the ongoing conflict in the state.

CPI-MSC, in a release, said that the state is now reeling under terror attacks by armed lungi-clad Myanmarese illegals owing to the government’s alleged failure to counter illegal immigrants. It mocked the government’s move to appoint Letpao Haokip, who is among the Kuki MLAs demanding a separate administration, as the head of the cabinet sub-committee for detection of illegal immigrants and termed it an ugly irony.

The sub-committee’s report states that around 2500 illegal Myanmarese nationals have been detected in Manipur, when in fact there have been reports of over 30 Myanmar refugees in neighbouring Mizoram, CPI-MSC said, adding that the same is clear that there is an obvious error in the report of the committee.

It reiterated its statement that the alleged failure of the Government to tackle illegal migration to the state on war footing is the genesis of the ongoing conflict in the state and demanded to bear all responsibilities. It expressed discontentment that the government's gross negligence has made the indigenous people live as refugees in their own land.
