The Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur (SSUM) on Thursday urged the central government to abruptly evict illegal immigrants entering Manipur from Myanmar after 1951 and held the Centre responsible for allegedly igniting the conflict in the state due to lack of timely actions to evict illegal immigrants.
SSUM, in a release, asserted that the prevailing clash broke out following threats by illegal immigrants to the indigenous people of the state. It added that chaos will escalate and continue in Manipur until and unless the central government fully evict all the illegal immigrants from the state.
The Meitei community do not like war or violence, however, Meiteis will not be bent by any threats, it maintained. It further condemned the national media and the opposition side for allegedly spreading fake and false propaganda.
It lamented that such unfounded and one-sided rumours have maligned the image of Manipur abroad. SSUM will launch various democratic agitations demanding the abrupt eviction of illegal immigrants, it mentioned and appealed to the public for support and assistance.
