CM N Biren Singh attended the two-day long Berkap-Reiju Festival, a cultural festival of the Kom community.

Government exists for the upliftment and protection of all indigenous communities of the state, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the inaugural day of the Kom community’s Berkep Leh Reiju Rehoi at Ichum Keirap Kom Village, Kangpokpi on Saturday.

CM Biren was speaking as the chief guest at the two-day long Berkap-Reiju Festival, which is a cultural festival of the Kom community to revive and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Kom Tribe.

He continued that the government has constructed replicas of traditional huts of all the indigenous tribes and communities at the Sangai Ethnic Park, where the different traditional and cultural identities of the communities will be showcased. He also stated that the state government is working under the PM’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’.

He also assured to consider the demands submitted by the locals including demands for road expansion, upgradation of UJB School and construction of Primary Health Centre. He also added that the construction of a Hills Leaders’ Bhavan in Imphal will be completed soon.

He also beat the gong as part of the inaugural function of the festival and commenced the festival with the tradition of the shooting of an arrow aimed at an image of a bird hanging from a pole. Upon their arrival, the chief minister and the other dignitaries were accorded a warm traditional welcome by the villagers.

Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, Moirang MLA Th Shanti along with the CSO leaders, village chiefs and church leaders also attended the function.
