Fresh violence erupts in Manipur

Two village volunteers injured in a gunfight between Kuki militants and Meitei village volunteers in Tengnoupal district, Manipur.

Fresh firing erupted in Manipur after a gunfight between Kuki militants and Meitei village volunteers broke out at Pelyang Hill range which is 15 km north from Machi Police station, Tengnoupal district on Thursday. Two village volunteers sustained injuries in the incident. 

As per sources, village volunteers received information of Kuki militants coming down towards Heirok Mamang Ching from Pelyang, Haikot and Bonglii villages on Thursday at around 5 pm. Village volunteers also went up to the hills to check and saw the Kuki militants coming down and the gun fight erupted at around 5.30 pm.

Reports added that the injured are Heikrujam Dinesh, 22, son of (L) H Janeshor of Charangpat Nepra Makha Leikai, he sustained bullet injury on his left leg and is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.

The other injured is Ningthoujam James, 21, son of N Rajib of Heirok Part-II who sustained bullet injury on his left belly. Another volunteer also sustained injuries and was brought to a private hospital in Kwakeithel but details remain unknown.

Sources said that 21 AR stationed at Machi arrived at the area on Friday at around 9 am after the village volunteers dominated the Kuki militants area, and the gunfight again started after their arrival. Intermittent firings were heard at the area till the filling of this report.

Meanwhile, an individual was shot at by unknown miscreants Kanglatongbi Shantipur area under Sekmai PS on Friday at 2.30 pm. 

The injured person has been identified as one Lalboi. Details are not available yet as Sekmai police cannot reach the place.
