The Lions Clubs of Imphal Excellence District 322D Manipur organised a free mega surgical health camp at district hospital Hungpung on Thursday, drawing a massive number of patients who required treatment for many health issues.
Over 20 major surgical cases were registered, of which 12 patients underwent successful operations on Thursday. Many people also came for eye check-up.
Reisangmi Raikhan, medical superintendent of district hospital Ukhrul, expressed gratitude to the Lions Club Imphal on behalf of the health department of the district for taking the initiative to conduct the surgical camp.
The main focus of this camp is on the surgical part, he said. “All the expenses, medicines and equipment were brought from Imphal and this has been a huge benefit for the people of Ukhrul,” Raikhan affirmed and expressed hope that the club will continue to organise more such programmes in the years to come.
He also expressed his gratitude to Leishiphung Christian Hospital and Comprehensive Health and Research Hospital Ukhrul (CH& RH) for their support towards the initiative.
In his speech, Kapangring, CMO Ukhrul said that the district hospital had six paediatricians, two gynaecologists, two oncologists, and two ortho among others “but what they have now are only freshers.”
President Lions Club Excellence Imphal Dr Soreingam expressed the need to have better machines for the district hospital Ukhrul so that the doctors could perform their functions well.
The programme was attended by district governor 322D governor, TNL president and executives, TMNL and THYSO, among others.
Drug Abuse awareness and career counselling was also held at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School and St Joseph College Ukhrul. The mega health event concluded on Friday.
