Free medical camp for displaced students held

Health check ups were conducted for the displaced students from different relief camps studying in IRE Wangjing.

A free medical camp was held for students at the Relief Student’s Residential camp at Institute of Rural Education (IRE), Group of Institutions, Wangjing on Wednesday.

A team of doctors led by Primary Health Centre Khongjom Medical Officer (MO) in charge Dr Prem under the supervision of chief medical officer Thoubal organised the medical camp and DESAM also extended their support in organising the camp.

Health check ups were conducted for the displaced students from different relief camps studying in IRE Wangjing. Around 80 students were treated during the medical camp and free medicines were also provided. Sanitary pads were also distributed to 28 female students.

IRE Group of Institutions Principal Narengbam Rajivkumar appreciated CMO Thoubal, doctors and staff of PHC Khongjom and DESAM for successfully organising the medical camp.

Rajivkumar said that IRE have provided free education to 57 displaced students from Sugnu, Serou, Churachandpur and Moreh, who are currently taking shelter at the relief camps opened at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex and Lamding Higher Secondary School.

He added that Relief Student’s Residential Camp, a camp fully sponsored by IRE, has been supplying all the necessities for the student’s education. All the educational needs for the 57 students from class IV till X are borne by the residential camp.

He said that former IRE students have extended relief items for the students and also appealed to the public to extend their support for the displaced students.
