As many as four Manipur Police Commando personnel and one BSF personnel sustained serious injuries in an ambush by Kuki militants, namely KNA/KNA-B, UKLF and PDF on the route to Moreh Hospital at Canaan Veng and Chawangphai in Moreh, Tengnoupal district on Tuesday morning.
As per sources, a combined team of Manipur Police Commando, BSF, IRB MR, Special Commando Unit moved in to carry out search operations on the route to Moreh Hospital at Canaan Veng and Chawangphai around 8.30 am. They were ambushed on the way by Kuki militants using bombs and assault rifles.
In response, security forces engaged in retaliatory gunfire. Subsequently, around 9.30, the security forces faced additional gunfire from the Chawangphai area, Moreh, sources said.
The exchange of fire concluded at approximately 11.30 am.
As a result of the gunfight, the following members of the security forces sustained injuries and they have been evacuated to Imphal for further medical treatment.

The injured are Maibam Thoiba, 32, Rfn. No. 062019961, 6MR, son of M Rabi of Yairipok Top, presently attached with Special Police CDO; Chabungbam Herojit, 38, C/ No.0901752, I/W son of Ch Biren of Kodompokpi Mayai Leikai, presently attached with Special Police CDO; Kamei Gaihemlung, 40, Rfn No. 022006086, 2MR son of (L) Kamei Majapou of Ragailong, presently attached with CDO Imphal West district.
Mangsatabam Premkumar,35, C/ No. 01806039, IR(CDO) Bn., son of M Tolen of Luwangsangbam, presently attached with Special Police CDO; Maibam Dayandi, 49, Rfn. No. 1299090, 2IRB, son of (L) M Jugindro of Nambol Maibam, presently attached with Special Police CDO and HC Ravinder Singh, 48, G-Coy, 192 Bn. BSF, Moreh, Rajasthan, District- Hanumangarh also sustained injuries during the attack.
There are no reports of Kuki militants sustaining casualties on their side. Exchange of gunfire continued till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the injured personnel who are being treated at RIMS.
CM Biren took to X about his visit and posted, “My heartfelt thoughts are with the victims and their families in this challenging time. We’re committed to tackling those bent on destabilizing Manipur, ensuring justice for the victims with decisive actions against the responsible parties.”
