Four people were arrested and 2 kg of illicit drugs were seized from their possession by the 5th Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (S) at the mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) at T Motha Village (Minou) in Tengnoupal district on Saturday.
According to sources, the arrested four have been identified as Lamngailal Kipgen, 32, son of late Lunkhopao Kipgen from New Laikot Village, Moreh; Letkhochon Kipgen, 22, son of Jangkholen Kipgen from Zalenphai Village, Moreh; Ngamgoulen Touthang, 32, son of Thangmang Touthang from Janglenphai Village, Churachandpur district; and Seingam Haokip, 38, son of late Zamkhai Haokip from Ngamkhai Veng, Moreh.
Based on a report, the AR personnel were conducting a routine check at MVCP at T Motha village where they stopped a four-wheeler vehicle (Gypsy) without a registration number followed by a two-wheeler vehicle (N-TORQ), it informed.
The four-wheeler vehicle was driven by one Lamngailal Kipgen while Ngamgoulen Touthang and Seingam Haokip were the occupants, and the two-wheeler vehicle was driven by one Letkhochon Kipgen, it added.
On thorough checking of the vehicles, the AR detected 50 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar hidden inside a spare tyre in the four-wheeler vehicle, it maintained.
It stated that the AR team seized the items along with mobile phones and the vehicles. The seized items along with the apprehended individuals were handed over to Moreh police station for further necessary legal actionsm it added.
