Four accused in viral video remanded in CBI custody

The applications filed by the four accused in viral video case to be considered on August 2.

The Special Judge (SC and ST POA), Thoubal (in-charge) has remanded four accused in the viral video case in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) till August 2. The applications filed by the four accused will also be considered on August 2.

The accused persons namely Huirem Herodash Meitei (32), son of late H Rajen Meitei of Pechi Awang Leikai, Arun Khundongbam (29), son of Kh Ingobi Singh of Shikhong Bazar, Yumlembam Jiban Singh (18), son of Y Ibomcha Singh of Nongpok Sekmai Awang Leikai and Ningombam Tomba Singh @ Tomthin were produced before the court on Monday with a prayer of remanding them into judicial custody by the police.

They were arrested by the police in connection with ‘zero FIR’ lodged on June 21 under section 153(A)/398/427/436/448/302/354/364/326/376/34 IPC and 25(1-c) A from Saikul police station. The complaint was filed by the chief of B Phainom village, Thangboi Viaphei.

From the submission of special PP, it was found from the disclosure of the accused that those women were not raped.

Before the court, the four accused also filed a remand objection, praying for bail by rejecting prayer of judicial remand, on the major ground that they are all innocent.

Interestingly, the CBI also filed an application for handing over the custody to the CBI along with a prayer of police custody for three days.

The CBI produced the notification of the government of India and Manipur for taking over the FIR.

The court, after hearing the submission, stated that the FIR was transferred to the CBI with notifications from the central government and state government. Therefore, the four accused should be taken over from the state police by the CBI to investigate the case smoothly, the court stated.
