The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) on Thursday welcomed the historic peace treaty signed between the Central government and a prominent valley-based UG group on Wednesday.

FOCS maintained that the initiation of the peace process would sow the seed for speedy development, he said, exhorting all citizens of the state to extend their support throughout the process.

“They are one of the oldest UG groups in the state and their decision to lay down arms after a six decade long struggle with the Indian Union is a moment all people should savour.
This is the start of something special,” he said.

He maintained that the UG group was the first valley based outfit to strike a peace treaty with the Indian authority.

“We hope that the remaining valley based outfits also find similar reasons and join the journey towards peace,” he added. He exuded confidence that the new table talk would empower and cement a stable future for all indigenous communities in Manipur.

“It is a matter of great importance and we hope all the valley based like-minded outfits would also support the peace initiatives and embark on a similar journey to usher peace in the state,” he said.

He further called upon all the people and bodies in Manipur to extend support in finalising the peace initiative and strengthening the unity among all communities in Manipur.
