The first-ever District Level Peace Committee meeting in Tamenglong, chaired by MLA Tamenglong assembly constituency Janghemlung Panmei, was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner Tamenglong on Friday.
Committee chairman Janghemlung Panmei informed that some tensions are prevailing at border areas like Tamei and Tousem subdivision. The committee resolved to physically visit the vulnerable border district areas.
The meeting also resolved to meet the Jiribam district level peace committee to hold deliberations and requested to maintain peace with the border villages of Tamenglong.
Deputy commissioner Tamenglong Angshim Dangshawa said that at least 648 displaced persons were safely dispatched to their destination when the conflict started.
Few incidents of pelting stones were reported but no firings were reported within Tamenglong district.
He said that the district administration had gone to the villages which are vulnerable to conflict and requested them to maintain peace in the district.
He said that NH-37 Jiribam to Imphal road is an extremely important and crucial road in transporting essential commodities for all communities, and Tamenglong district has a big role to give safe passage to vehicles travelling along NH-37.
He also informed that markets for selling food grains at lower rates have been conducted in Tamenglong district and at vulnerable border areas.
Sub-divisional officer Tousem Paul Nangsha, Tamenglong superintendent of police Anupam, Civil organisations leaders also attended the first-ever, district-level peace committee meeting.
