On the second day of the 5th session of the 12ths Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday, House leader and Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed the House that an FIR has been registered in connection with the excessive use of force at Cheirap Court complex on February 20.
During the calling attention, MLA K Meghachandra drew the attention of the House stating that excessive use of force by security personnel to the general public at Cheirap Court complex lost the sanctity and dignity of the court.
He demanded an inquiry against the act, as lawyers, advocates and judges are very angry about it.
In response to the demand, the chief minister said that a mob stormed the court complex and tried to snatch or rescue those accused who were produced before the Court in connection with an arm and ammunition loot case.
The state police tried to control the mob but it was unable and called on the Rapid Action Force to control the mob. It is very unfortunate that excessive force was used in the court arena. On the other hand, controlling the mob and protecting the accused from the mob was also important from a security point of view, he said.
However, an FIR has been taken up and if required, an enquiry will also be conducted, he added.
