Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai Yumjao Lairembi Meira Paibi secretary Konjengbam ongbi Nonibala Devi said the womenfolk of the area strongly condemned the killing of the two innocent students by suspected Kuki militants. She demanded that justice for the two students and the culprits involved during the crime must be arrested immediately.

She said the extreme action of security forces including firing of pellet guns and the brutal assault towards student protesters must be stopped immediately. The government and authorities concerned should also take immediate steps to stop such extreme action of security forces towards students, said Nonibala.

The two students have been missing since July 6; however, no clues have been reportedly found by state police so far though a CCTV footage had shown them riding towards Nambol in Bishnupur district on the morning of July 6.

The respective family members also registered two different cases at the police station. It is reported that the last mobile location of Hemanjit was found to be at Lamdan, Churachandpur district which is a Kuki dominated area.

Protesters demonstrated placards which read, ‘retaliate against the influx of immigrants’, ‘CM: Action yengbiyu - when will the action come?’, ‘we want justice’, ‘justice delayed, justice denied’ and others.
