The Imphal East district administration has called for financial assistance for children who became orphan or destitute due to death or permanent incapacitation of either or main bread earner in the family in communal and other forms of societal violence.
Speaking to the media on Friday at DC Imphal East Conference Hall, DC Kh Daina said that under National Foundation of Communal Harmony scheme, an autonomous body working under Ministry of Home Affairs provides a project to support children who are orphaned or destitute due to communal and other societal violence.
Children whose family income is upto Rs 2 lakh per annum are eligible for assistance. Each child is provided financial assistance of Rs 1,250 per month upto class 12; Rs 1,500 per month for graduation/post graduation and Rs 1,750 per month for professional course, without any restriction on number of children in a family, she informed.
The assistance is given till the child attains the age of 25 years, she added.
She said that those children who become destitute or semi-orphan or orphaned due to violence in the state can apply for assistance. And also, any required documents can be helped from the office, she added.
She appealed to apply for financial assistance for education, as only 15 children applied for the assistance in Imphal East district.
