In a major development in the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign, a team of Imphal East police on Wednesday arrested three people and seized a large number of fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 (Cut and uncut) along with heroin and WY tablets from their possessions in separate incidents.
According to police report, around 5:30 am, based on reliable information about the sale of drugs by one woman in a house located at Urup Kanthak in Imphal East, a combined team consisting of three teams of Special Team, Imphal East, led by SI Ng. Debeshwar Singh rushed to the said house and conducted a search.
During the search, one Taslima, 25, wife of Md Sabir Ali of Urup Kangthak, was arrested from her residence along with five soap cases containing suspected Heroin powder, 3,970 numbers of suspected WY tablets, and one Redmi Smartphone. On weighing, the heroin powder was 60 grams in total (including the transparent polythene).
The police also seized 26 bundles of fake Rs 500 currency notes and 101 numbers of uncut Rs 500 currency sheets and three packets of empty plastic vials.
From the disclosure of Taslima, one Md. Bocha, 33, son of (L) Md. Ali of Kiyamgei Makha Leikai was also arrested along with one soap case and 144 pieces of suspected SP capsules from his residence at 6:30 am.
Another youth, identified as Umar, 24, son of Md Jalal of Keirao, was also arrested along with one laptop and one printer from his shop located at Keirao Litan Makhong at 6:50 am.
The arrested persons, along with the seized articles, have been handed over to OC Irilbung PS for necessary legal action, sources said.
The operation was assisted by SI T Lenin Sharma, HC M Santa Singh, HC Ch. Sonamani Singh of Special Team, Imphal East along with lady constables, 2 (two) teams of CDO/IE, and the volunteers of YADA Khergao under the supervision of M Pradip Singh, IPS, SP/Imphal East, and the command of Kh Herojit Singh, MPS, Addl. SP(Ops), Imphal East.
