Three persons were arrested for allegedly extorting money from commuters while airsoft guns they used for extortion were seized from their possession in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
According to sources, Churachandpur Police Station received a tip-off about some unknown persons holding weapons and loitering around Muolvaiphei village near KT Spring, Churachandpur and extorting money from vehicles plying along Churachandpur-Sugnu road at 9.10 pm on Saturday.
Accordingly, a team of Churachandpur police rushed to the area and detained three persons found acting in a suspicious manner.
The individuals identified themselves as Lalramhlun Lungtau alias Daa ,32, son of (L) Sapbiek from Rengkai Muolhluom, Churachandpur; Vanlalthang alias VL ,40, son of Sumneithang from Parbung, presently residing at Muolvaiphei, Churachandpur and Lalthralhun Joute alias Lalthra ,37, son of Lailienthoun from Ngurte DLC Veng, Churachandpur, presently residing at Shan veng, Rengkai, Churachandpur.
They admitted that they are members of the HPC(D) Manipur region and were extorting money from vehicles plying along Churachandpur-Sugnu road by using arms. They were arrested from the spot at 10.10 pm.
One Airsoft gun (M4A1) with one magazine (without live rounds), one Smith and Wesson M & P 40.177 (4.5 mm caliber) BB Gun Air Pistol with one magazine (without live round) and one holster were seized from the possession of Lalramhlun Lungtau.
One Maruti Car 800 b/no. MZ0K-5130 (red color), three mobile phones ( Oppo F-17, Redmi 10 and Vivo-1816) were also seized.
A suo motu case under FIR No.13(1)2023 Churachandpur Police Station under section 384/400/34 IPC & 25(1-C) Arms Act has been registered for investigation.
