An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected to have been planted by miscreants, was found in front of a spare parts shop, at Andro Parking under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East at 11.10 am Saturday, sources said.
The sources said the shop, CIA Enterprises, is owned by one Wahengbam Cheng Cheng, 33, son of W Jadumani from Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai, presently residing at Andro Parking.
The explosive was picked up by a team of State Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (SBDDS) around 1.48 pm after police cordoned off the area.
The IED was made of one metallic pot weighing 1.5 kg, a mobile hand set, one electronic detonator and 2.5 kg of gelatin explosive, the sources said.
The total weight of the IED was around 4 kg. It was safely detonated at the Awa Ching of Nongmaijing Ching under Imphal East at 2.57 pm, police said.
