The Police Control Room of the Manipur Police on Wednesday stated that an irate mob targeted the 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion (3 IRB) in Khangabok, Thoubal district on Wednesday, following the death of one security personnel at Moreh.
A release stated that security forces repelled them using the minimum necessary force. Further, the mob attempted to breach Thoubal Police Headquarters, prompting the security forces to use legal force. Armed miscreants from among the mob fired with live rounds, and as a result, three personnel from BSF sustained bullet injuries.
The injured personnel are constable Gourav Kumar, ASI Sobram Singh and ASI Ramji. The injured security forces have been evacuated to Raj Medicity for medical treatment, it stated.
It mentioned that the movement of 174 vehicles along NH-2 respectively with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it said.
It said that a total of 139 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 211 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
Manipur Police also appeal to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it added.
