Encourage youths to join gym to stop drug abuse: Mr Manipur 2022 Best Coach Dhaneshwor

Mr Manipur 2022 fitness coach Mutim Dhaneshwor suggests schools and colleges to open gymnasiums in their respective campuses to help reduce the number of drug users among school going students.

Society should encourage youths to enrol in gyms to prevent them from indulging in drug abuse, Mutum Dhaneshwor Singh, who was awarded the Best Coach at Mr Manipur Diamond Jubilee 2022, suggested while lauding the government's War on Drugs campaign.

"To stay away from intoxicants, including drugs and other subtance abuse, an individual needs to stay healthy. The society should encourage the youths to enrol in gyms as it will help them not only to be physically fit but also to be mentally strong,” Dhaneshwor said told this Imphal Free Press reporter.

Dhaneshwor said if schools and colleges open a gymnasium in their respective campuses, then the number of drug users among school going students, which is reportedly increasing, could be reduced.

Lauding the Manipur government for the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign to fight against drugs menace in the state, the fitness coach said that the present government’s ‘War on Drugs’ campaign to root out drugs from the state is being supported by various civil society organizations, including local bodies,

Mutum Dhaneshwor Singh is a fitness coach of Friends Fitness Gym of Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal West, which was declared the overall team champion at the Mr Manipur Diamond Jubilee, which was held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Imphal East December 4.

Altogether, Friends Fitness bagged eight medals in different categories, including four gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals at the event.

Among the medallists, Engudam Kavita won gold medal and overall champion in women’s category.

In the master category (40-50 years), Bachaspatimayum Bedakumar Sharma won gold while Khundrakpam Uttamkumar and Longjam Ellison Singh also won gold medals in senior 70 kg and junior 70 kg categories respectively.

Pebam Ronen Meitei won silver medal in men’s senior 75 kg category.

Taorem Sanatomba Singh and Wangkhem Boicha Meitei won bronze medals in men’s junior 65 kg and 70 kg respectively.

In the men's physically challenged category, Tharoijam Robin stood in 4th position.
