The Heirangoithong Apunba Lup and Bazar Area Women Welfare Association torched effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Union Home Minister Amit Shah; Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state BJP president A Sharda Devi, decrying their alleged inability to bring normalcy back to Manipur.

The effigies were torched down at Heirangoithong, Imphal West on Sunday evening.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Heirangoithong Apunba Lup, advisor L Randhoni told the media that the women folks of the area torched the effigies of four leaders as “they have become useless in Manipur.”

Over 50 days have passed and these leaders are not able to bring a solution to the present crisis, she alleged.

“If the Central government is willing to solve the present crisis, then it can solve the issue within a matter of few hours. India is one of the superpower countries in the world, and the Central government can stop the attacks by Kuki militants and illegal armed militants easily. However, the union home minister, defense minister and Prime Minister are not taking any serious steps to bring normalcy in Manipur,” she added.

Even Union Home Minister Amit Shah failed to deliver his assurance that he will return to Manipur after 15 days of his visit in order to bring normalcy to the state, she said.

To protest the failure in taking up legitimate steps by the leaders, the 4 effigies were set ablaze, said Randhoni.
