The ECI is facing criticism for its decision to conduct repolling at only 11 out of the numerous polling stations where alleged booth capturing took place in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in both inner and outer Manipur.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra accused the ECI of being influenced by the BJP government.

Speaking before heading to Jiribam for campaigning in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Manipur, Meghachandra criticised the BJP for allegedly using muscle and money power to intimidate voters to vote for them and its alliance partner, the NPF.

He also accused the party of indulging in booth capturing with the help of armed miscreants to ensure votes for the BJP.

“This kind of behavior by the BJP is a denial of democracy and the rights of the voters,” Meghachandra said, calling on the people of Manipur to stand up for justice and against such forces of the BJP to save democracy.

To ensure that the rights of the public are protected, the Congress will continue to appeal to the appropriate authorities for repoll of those polling stations which have been allegedly captured by the BJP, he added.
