The wildfire at the Dzuko range on the Manipur side has been controlled, said Chief Minister N Biren on Saturday.
The chief minister was addressing the media during the observance of the 187th Death Anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh at the Samadhi of the Maharaj at Langthabal (Canchipur), Imphal.
Biren said that the state government has started working on constructing a permanent structure at the two base camps of Dzukou Valley, is establishing a police outpost and constructing a trekking route.
The chief minister has instructed officials and engineers of Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited and other concerned departments to survey the spots.
Biren said he was surprised to learn that the Nagaland government had already constructed a guesthouse and helipad at Dzukou valley.
Biren also informed that the consultation work with experts and intellectuals to encrypt the details of the kings of Manipur starting from the time of Eningthou Pakhangba (33 AD) on the wall of the Samadhi to make it as a unique historical park of the state is in progress.
Currently, two contract private caretakers have been engaged by the MLA of Langthabal to maintain the complex. However, there is a need to form a committee to properly maintain the memorial complex, said the chief minister.
A massive fire broke out in the Dzukou range in Southern Angami region under Kohima district in Nagaland, engulfing the Dzukou valley viewpoint on December 29, around 5 pm. The fire spread to the Manipur side of the Dzuko range which borders the two states in Northeast India.
The wildfire had completely charred the vegetations on Mount Iso (Tenipu), the highest peak of Manipur, DC Senapati district Kh Kiran had said, as a team of journalists visited the areas affected by the wildfire to collect reports on the developing situation on January 5.
Regarding the submission of a memorandum by women’s groups of Manipur demanding reinvestigation of the Lhukhosei Zou drug case, Biren said, "The matter will be taken up legally by the law department. What can be done, we will look into it."
During the observance, the chief minister paid floral tribute to Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Meidingu Narasingh and Sana Herachandra.
