A drug manufacturing unit at Yairipok Changamdabi, Imphal East was busted early Thursday. At least two persons were arrested along with large quantities of drugs by the Thoubal police. Unknown persons fired a round at the police, while the latter was trying to seize drugs, police sources said.
According to police, on Thursday at about 4.45 am, Thoubal district police reeceived a tipoff regarding concealed illegal drugs at Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai.
As per the information, teams of Thoubal commando and Women Police led by O Wangkhomba, MPS Addituonal SP(Ops) and assisted by Inspector K Nitaranjan Singh, OC/CDO, Thoubal under the supervision of Jogeshchandra Haobijam IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Thoubal arrested one Khulakpam Abdul Ali @ Raghu, 32, son of Late Md Suyeb Ali of Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai, Imphal East at 6:20 am and seized a large quantities of drugs from his house.
The drugs included suspected Heroin No 4 powder weighing 906 gm, suspected opium weighing 936 gms, suspected Ammonium Chloride powder weighing 279 gm and suspected brown sugar weighing 5 gm, all weighed including the weight of the plastic, the police source disclosed.
Further on the arrested person disclosed that the above mentioned seized drugs were handed to him by one Khuleibam Muhamuddin @ Ibocha, son of (Late) Md Angou also from Yaripok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai, the police team, as a follow up action, rushed to his house during which two unknown persons tried to escape and one of them fired a round from his barrel gun at the police party, the police sources added.
Immediately, the police team overpowered the shooter and snatched the gun and recovered the empty case while the other person fled the scene.
On preliminary verification, the detainee identified himself as the same Khuleibam Muhamuddin @ Ibocha, 60, son of (Late) Md Angou of Yaripok Changambabi Mayai Leikai.
Hence, he was arrested at 7:15 am from the spot and seized one Double Barrel Gun marked as “25003-2014 BHATT & Co”, one empty case and one ammunition marked as “12 Shaktiman 12 Express” at 7:30 am from his possession by observing formalities, the police source informed.
On further examination by the police, the arrested person Muhamuddin revealed that the brown sugar and heroin seized from Khulakpam Abdul Ali were manufactured at his house by his son, Md Naaman Khuleibam and that his son was the other person who had fled the scene along with other drugs and materials used for the manufacturing.
Afterwards, the police team conducted a house search during which was found suspected brown sugar residue weighing 1.491 kg and other utensils and lime weighing a total of 28 kg of lime suspected to be used in manufacturing illegal drugs.
Both the arrested persons along with seized items were handed over to Andro PS for taking further necessary legal action, the source disclosed.
