Drivers of passenger van services plying along Imphal-Moreh ceased work for a day, demanding that the culprits involved in the killing of Priyobrata be handed over to the Moreh Drivers’ Union and the JAC immediately.
Speaking to the media at Imphal-Moreh van parking located at Moirangkhom near Hicham Yaicham Pat, Imphal West, one Khundrakpam Binodkumar, a passenger van driver, said the culprits involved in the murder case of Priyobrata should be handover to the association and JAC immediately.
Yanglem Priyobrata, 48, son of Y Kesho from Nachou Awang Leikai, Ward No II, Bishnupur district went missing from December 30, and his body was found from a deserted spot near Kedima Veswama Bypass at the late night of Saturday. Priyobrata ran a passenger van service from Imphal-Moreh.
In connection with the incident, a couple identified as Heisman James, 32, son of H Kumar from Lamboi Khongnangkhong near Lamphel Police Station and his wife Heisnam Ongbi Sandhyarani, 33 have been arrested.
He said that Binodkumar said that Priyobrata was a calm, gentle and hard-working person, and the drivers are still confused about the reason behind his murder. The government and authority concerned should take stringent action towards the culprits and those who are involved in the incident, he added.
“Following the incident, our family members are going through fear considering that such unwanted incidents could occur to any one of us,” said Binodkumar.
He appealed to the government to compensate the family of the deceased, and assured that the drivers will also give necessary support to the family.
