Doctors in Tamenglong district under the banner of the All Manipur Health Services Doctor's Association staged a relay hunger strike in front of District Hospital Duigailong, Tamenglong on Sunday.
This is the second attempt the doctors in Tamenglong staged a relay hunger strike. Their first attempt was foiled by the police.
Speaking on the sidelines of the strike, Dr Sunil Kamei said that all medical services are still available to the public and doctors are not stopping their duties despite the relay hunger strike.
He said that doctors in Tamei PHC and Tousem are also holding hunger strike, demanding fixation of None Practice Allowances with effect from January 1, 2016 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission granted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) which is under the state government. They questioned why Manipur Health Services doctors are left out.
They also demanded that Transfer and Posting Policy of Health Services 2017 should be strictly abided and any MHS Doctors should be made eligible to the highest post by virtue of their seniority.
The doctors also demanded time-bound promotion and enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years as declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The association demanded for the creation of director general’s post and under director Health Services, Director Family Welfare Services, Director Public Health and Director Medical Education. Another demand is the provision of risks and difficult area posting allowances, Dr Sunil Kamei added.
