The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has called for not removing nor deleting voters of displaced person from Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi, who are staying at relief camps or fabricated houses.
Speaking to the media on Saturday at JCILPS office located at Keishampat, JCILPS convenor Thiyam Sharatchandra Singh said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is going to publish the final electoral roll of all assembly constituencies on January 5, 2024.
The state government should not relax without giving attention while conducting special summary revision of electoral roll, 2024 by the ECI. The state government should not free the ECI while deleting, removing or including voters, he said.
"The Chief Electoral Officer should publish numbers of increased, decreased and added voters in Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll, 2024 final publication", said Sharatchandra.
He highlighted that allowing voter's rights to migrants and giving administration power to migrants will not benefit the implementation of ILP system.
Due to influx from neighbouring countries there is demographic imbalance in the state.
Knowing the fact, the Ministry of Home Affairs strictly directed the state government for taking biometric details of illegal immigrants, he mentioned.
Stating that the Manipur State Population Commission has been established but is not functioning properly, he called for appointment of subject expert of the commission and produce white paper of increase illegal immigrants.
Today, large number of immigrants rooted in the state has starting ruling state economy, he added.
