Do not circulate wrong information: Manipur Police

Manipur Police on Sunday arrested one person for circulating false and fabricated messages in social media.

The Manipur Police on Sunday appealed to the public not to circulate wrong information/news which may incite violence and disturb the law and order and that strict legal action will be taken up against any such defaulter.

On Sunday, Manipur Police also arrested one person for circulating false and fabricated messages in social media in connection with an FIR case registered at Porompat Police Station, Imphal East, stated a release issued by the Police Control Room, Manipur Police.

On Saturday, Manipur Police successfully foiled an attempt to incite communal disharmony by spreading false rumours/messages. Police encountered a message disseminated on social media which contained misleading information aimed at inciting tension between communities, it stated.  

Swiftly responding to this threat, police took immediate action, successfully tracked and arrested the two individuals on Sunday responsible for the propagation of the false message in connection with the case registered at Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West, it mentioned.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, it further stated.

Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Kakching and Thoubal districts, it added.

It further stated that movement of 300 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 144 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 233 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room, it said. It also appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
