The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has claimed that under some conspiracy with some authorities of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), some people are continuing some illegal business.

DESAM general secretary Nongthombam Thoithoiba on Thursday told the media at its head office located at Kwakeithel, Imphal West, that recently there was a rumour that some staff of BOSEM were recruited under conspiracy without proper procedure.

The education minister and those concerned must be aware of the issue, he said and questioned why they are not taking any action against those corrupted officials of BOSEM.

“Is the education minister a silent spectator because he is also involved in the conspiracy?”, he questioned.

He alleged that there is a strong suspicion that some high level authorities along with those of BOSEM are involved in some illegal business.

The concerned authorities should take necessary action against the authorities of BOSEM who are allegedly involved in the business, DESAM said.

If necessary actions are not taken against those involved, then they could finish up the corpus fund of BOSEM, he added.

Besides, in the name of providing assistance to the needy students some organisations are taking various text books for class I- X from BOSEM at free of cost, Thoithoiba alleged. Interestingly, they are only taking the text books which are not printed ‘not for sale’ while they should be taking the books printed with ‘not for sale’, he said.

Thoithoiba then questioned if there is any difference between the two text books.

If an organisation gets textbooks from BOSEM free of cost for all subjects for class I –X (200 copy each), then the cost is around Rs 15 lakh. The cost of such textbooks, if it is provided to such 20 organisations, will be around Rs 1.50 crore, said Thoithoiba.

The authority concerned of BOSEM including the education minister should resign from their respective post if they are not able to control it, he added.

He further said the textbooks that BOSEM is publishing are quality books. The authority concerned should take the matter seriously and that DESAM will never compromise while about quality education in Manipur, he added.
