Day curfew lifted in Imphal

Curfew to remain lifted from 5 am to 6 pm in Imphal East and Imphal West districts on August 16.

The Manipur government on Tuesday ordered continued relaxation in day curfew from 5 am to 6 pm in Imphal East and Imphal West districts on August 16, citing "considerable improvement in law and order situation in the two districts.

According to orders issued by the respective district magistrates on Tuesday, curfew has been relaxed in both districts in order to facilitate the general public in purchasing essential items, including medicines and food.

However, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, municipality, power (MSPDCL/MSPCL), press and electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to the airport will be exempted from the imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation, the orders mentioned.

The district magistrates had issued prohibitory orders under section 144 of the ode of Criminal Procedure 1973 for restriction of the movement of persons outside their respective residences since May 3, when the communal violence broke out in several parts of the state.
