Cyclone Remal: Public advisory issued for Manipur's Tamenglong

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin dated May 27, had issued an Orange alert for the entire state of Manipur.

In view of the severe Cyclone Remal that is affecting several Northeastern states, including Manipur, the office of the deputy commissioner Tamenglong/DDMA on Tuesday issued a public advisory to remain alert and take the necessary precautions to avoid loss of life and property.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin dated May 27, had issued an Orange alert for the entire state of Manipur.

In its advisory, the DC/DDMA Tamenglong, advised the general public to take the following precautions:

- Stay informed, keep yourself updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings issued by local, state and national authorities. Ignore rumours and stay calm and not panic.

- Reinforce doors and windows, secure loose objects.

- Prepare an emergency kit with essential items such as non-perishable foods, water, torch lights, first aid supplies, medicines for safety and survival.

- Children and elderly are advised to stay indoors and do not come out of the house unless under unavoidable emergencies.

- Keep emergency contacts handy.

- Stay away from flood prone areas, landslide prone areas, rivers, and streams.

- Agriculture and other outdoor activities may be postponed till the weather condition improves.
