A Curtain Raiser of Manipuri poetry Day Observation was held on Thursday at Nagaland ahead of the main event to be held on Full moon of Kartik (Mera gi Thanin), October 28 at Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy, Imphal by Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur.
The Department of English, St Joseph University, Nagaland organised the event (curtain raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day Observation) and was chaired by Thokchom Sunanda, Head of Department, Department of English, St Joseph University, Nagaland.
In her speech, HOD Sunanda said, Manipuri Poetry Day, which is observed in Manipur by Fiction and Poetry Club every year on the day of Kartik (Mera gi Thanin), the same is observed in her Department, St. Joseph University every year with the best level.
Most of the students in the department are non-Meiteilon speakers but they are impressed to see a day for Manipuri Poetry and they were happy that such events are organised in their department.
In Thursday’s event, 20 participants recited poems on various themes such as conflict, love, friendship, be the best of you, death, Turmoil in Manipur, and the likes
The event concluded with a prayer for early peace and harmony in Manipur.
