Amid tight security, the Manipur State Council of CPI demonstrated a protest in front of the Manipur State Assembly gate demanding an immediate solution to the present crisis of Manipur and questioning why no special assembly session on present crisis has been held.
The demonstration started from Yumjao Lairembi Community Hall, Thangmeiband and headed towards the Lilashing Khongnangkhong traffic island. Some state police personnel tried to stop the rally and confrontation took place between police and the protestors.
However, the protestors overpowered the state police and headed towards the traffic island while shouting slogans like “we demand immediate assembly session”.
The protesters also held placard that read, “open blockade on National highway-2”, “no to ethnic politics”, “eradicate poppy plantation”, “save Manipur save humanity” and others.
Secretary of Manipur State Council, CPI, Leishangthem Thoiren Meitei told the media on the sideline of the protest that the rally was organized showing solidarity to the affected people of Manipur, a resolution taken during the National Council meeting held at Ajay Bhavan, New Delhi on July 14-16.
He said the solidarity rally was organised across the country.
Thoiren said, due to the crisis many students are not able to go to schools or colleges while many people have become homeless.
To bring back peace and tranquillity, Manipur State Assembly should be held immediately and should resolve to root out narco-terrorists from Manipur, he added.
