In view of the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state over the last few days, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday appealed to the people to start wearing face masks to prevent the spread of the infection.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of a tree plantation programme conducted at Eshingchaibi area of Nongmaiching Reserved Forest in connection with the celebration of the 73rd Van Mahotsav, 2022, Biren said the concerned department is yet to issue order but he has instructed to all the officials to start thermal screening at entry points including Bir Tikendrajit International Airport and others as precautionary measures.
Since the first wave of the pandemic, a total of 1,37,367 people have tested positive, out of which 2,120 people have died due to COVID-19 so far.
On Thursday, a total of 295 samples were tested and 22 people tested positive. However, there was no report of any deaths in connection with COVID-19 infection. And over the last few days, due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the number of positive cases has escalated to 97 cases in the state.
