Cop shoots woman in Imphal West

The accused has been put under suspension as per rules and produced before the court for further police remand.

An assistant sub-inspector of Manipur Police posted at City Police Station, Imphal West has been put under suspension after he allegedly shot a woman in Imphal West with his service weapon on Thursday.

The injured woman has been referred to Raj Medicity for treatment after being admitted to RIMS.

According to police, assistant sub-inspector Salam Deepak Singh, 33, son of Salam Gourakishor Singh from Iroisemba Mamang Leikai shot Haorokcham Thajamanbi Devi, 34, daughter of Haorokcham Thoiba Singh from Sanjenbam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, presently residing at Tera Khuraijam Leirak, Imphal West.  

The woman was shot near the gate of Khundrakpam Prabha Devi at Tera Khuraijam Leirak around 9.50 pm, police said, adding that she sustained injury and was admitted to RIMS and further referred to Raj Medicity for treatment     

A case under FIR No. 5(1)2023 Lamphel Police station under section 307 IPC & 27 Arms Act has been registered in connection with the case, police said.

The accused was arrested from his residence around 11.20 pm on Thursday. From his possession, one 9 mm pistol, one magazine, three live rounds of ammunition, and one empty case were seized by preparing a formal seizure memo in the presence of witnesses.

The accused has been put under suspension as per rules and produced before the court for further police remand.
