Constitution Day 2022 observed in Manipur

During the Constitution Day 2022 observation in Manipur, a pledge was taken by reading out the Preamble of the Constitution of India.

Constitution Day, also known as 'Samvidhan Divas', was observed in Manipur on Saturday at JN Dance Academy, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The constitution day was organised by the state Law and Legislative Affairs department. During the programme, pledge was taken by reading out the Preamble of the Constitution of India.

During the observation, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister, Th Basantakumar informed that every year since 1950, following the adoption of constitution of India, the Constitution Day has been celebrated across India. On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from January 26, 1950, the minister said.

He also said that the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry on November 19, 2015 notified the decision of the government of India to celebrate November 26 every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote Constitution values among citizens.

“As a citizen of India, we should also know the duties of citizens given by Constitution and not only the rights”, the minister said.

The minister suggested taking the pledge of maintaining duties given by the Constitution.

"Let us work hard for unity and development of the state and the nation," said the minister.

He informed that the state government has issued notices for learning seven languages of seven communities of the state where anyone below 50 years can register to learn language. It is a programme initiated by the state government for convergence and unity, he said.

The programme was attended by advocate general of Manipur, Lenin Hijam; Law commissioner, Nungsitombi Athokpam; director of Prosecution, A Nilachandra; government of advocate (High Court), RK Umakanta; president of All Manipur Bar Association, P Tomcha Meetei and president of All Manipur Lady Advocate's Association, Ch Kiranbala Devi.
