The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hit out at the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) stating that it is trying to block centrally-sponsored schemes in the state by spreading false propaganda and allegations.

"There is a suspicion within the state Congress party that it is trying to block Centrally-sponsored schemes by spreading false propaganda against the developmental works carried out by the BJP-led coalition government," state BJP vice president Ch Chidananda Singh  told mediapersons.

Speaking to the media at its state party head office located at Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal West on Wednesday, Chidananda said that the last state general assembly election showed that people of the state no longer support the Congress party.

In rural areas of the state, different developmental works, especially in road development, are continuing in different stages, the BJP leader said, adding that there are certain guidelines for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) schemes.

"If there is corruption or misused of funds while bringing developmental works under the scheme, the concerned minister is taking immediate action," he said.

It is unfortunate for the Congress party alleging the BJP government with false propaganda regarding construction of roads and bridges under the scheme without having any knowledge of the guidelines of the scheme, he added.

Citing an example, Chidananda said the state Congress party is still in daze on the difference between stage I and II of the work carried out along Noney to Nungnang road and Tupul to Nungnang road of Tamenglong district under the PMGSY scheme. He said the state Congress party should try to clarify the confusion by consulting the officials concerned as it is not to be clarified by the BJP.

He said if the Congress party or any individual wanted to know the guidelines or any related information regarding any work carried out under PMGSY, the information is available at ‘Online Management, Monitoring and Accounting System (OMMAS)’ website.

Chidananda said the BJP will clarify constructive criticism and the party is not there to teach lessons to the Congress party repeatedly. The party should know the work progress which is carried out under the schemes by consulting with officials concerned.
