Congress polling agents threatened

The first incident unfolded in a series of phone calls between the husband of the polling agent of 3/21 Marconi Konsam, and an unknown individual whose identity is still at large.

In a surge of unwanted repoll incident, two Congress polling agents of polling stations 3/21 and 3/11 under Khurai Assembly Constituency in Manipur were threatened through phone call and texted to vacate their duties by an unknown miscreant.

The first incident unfolded in a series of phone calls between the husband of the polling agent of 3/21 Marconi Konsam, and an unknown individual whose identity is still at large.

It may be mentioned that recordings of the two phone calls surfaced online and went viral.

As per report, the first phone call took place around 9.30 am when the unknown miscreant called Marconi on his personal number. The second phone call came around 11.51 am. The number of the unidentified caller is 8131063440.

During both phone calls, the unknown caller can be heard demanding Marconi to call out his wife and made several grave threats to end Marconi and his wife.

The polling agent, Ningthoujam Sattisrasmi, was inside the polling station when the entire incident was occuring. She came to know about the situation when she switched her shift with another polling agent for lunch break.

Following the incident, Marconi tried to lodge a complaint to OC Porompat around 12 noon which was declined. According to Marconi, the OC said that the complaint had to come through the Returning officer (RO) of the polling station.

However, a team of Porompat Police visited Marconi's residence in Khurai Thongam Leikai, Imphal East later on in the evening for inquiry.

Speaking to the media, Marconi informed that a team of Porompat police came to his residence to inquire about the incident.

The police maintained that they came following the surfacing of the phone calls online, he added.

Meanwhile, his wife expressed discontentment over the entire incident and appealed to everyone to refrain from unruly actions.

Following the incident MPPC filed a complaint to the Returning Officer demanding competent authorities to provide proper security to safeguard the polling agent.

Meanwhile, Konsam Marconi has filed an FIR to OC Porompat Police regarding the incident urging them to take swift legal action against the culprit.

The identity of the second polling agent of 3/11 is Yumnam Ajitkumar. Imphal Free Press could not reach Ajitkumar and therefore is unable to provide further details.

Ajitkumar was allegedly threatened through text message to enjoy his last meal.
