The Congress party and Janda Dal-United (JD-U) on Wednesday released its final list of candidates for the ensuing state assembly elections.
In its final list, the Congress named four more candidates, including Naga People’s Front (NPF) leader and former Tengnoupal MLA, Morung Makunga.
Morung Makunga resigned from the primary membership of NPF after being denied ticket by the party.
Recently, the NPF in its list of candidates circulated in social media has given tickets to D Korungthang, who defected from the Congress party.
Morung Makunga was the president of NPF Manipur unit in 2017, working president, central in 2018 and served as an advisor to the president, central in 2021.
The other three candidates in the Congress’s list are Aribam Pramodibi Devi from Keishamthong, Rajkumar Priyobarta Singh from Wangkhei and Birla Haobijam from Thanga.
With the final four, the Congress will be contesting in 54 seats in the House of 60. In the first list, it had released lists of 40 candidates and 10 names in the second list.
The party has three women candidates, including Patsoi MLA AK Mirabai.
The JD-U also announced its final list of 6 candidates on Wednesday bringing the total candidates to 36.
The newly announced six candidates are former Tamenglong MLA Samuel Jendai, former Lilong MLA Md Abdul Nasir, Yumnam Santa Singh of Keirao assembly constituency; Konthoujam Manoranjan Singh of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency; Md Sikander Ali of Wabgai assembly constituency and Ngursanglur Sanate of Tipaimukh assembly constituency.
