Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president Harishwar Goswami on Thursday said that confining all cadres of militant groups operating under the SoO agreement to their designated camps could help restore approximately 90 per cent of normalcy in violence-hit Manipur.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan in Imphal on Thursday, Goswami suggested five points to the government for restoring normalcy in Manipur.

3. Taking immediate action against poppy planters, financiers and drug lords

4. Implementing relief measures promptly

5. Initiating the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants within a specified timeframe.

Root cause of Manipur Crisis, according to MPCC

The MPCC vice-president highlighted that narco-terrorism and the presence of Myanmar-based People's Defence Force (PDF) militants are the immediate factors contributing to the ongoing conflict.

He also traced the root cause of the conflict back to the establishment of the Kuki National Assembly in 1960.

He further alleged Chief Minister N Biren of negligence in the aftermath of the burning of an open gym in Churachandpur on April 27.

He said that the chief minister and his government should be held accountable for the loss of numerous lives, displacement of over 40,000 people, and destruction of properties.

Deployment of Central forces

Addressing the loss of trust in the Central forces by the people of the valley, Goswami questioned the purpose of deploying a large number of Central forces if civilians were left to defend for themselves against Kuki militants.

He further alleged union home minister Amit Shah of making hollow comments and allowing the people of Manipur to be left vulnerable, despite his assurance to confine the SoO militants in their designated camps.

Goswami also asserting that the ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ slogan of the ruling double engine government has transformed into ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Sarvanash (a collective destruction).’
