The Committee on Suitable Guidelines for Non-Funded Private Rehabilitation Centres on Tuesday demanded the state government to issue specific guidelines for the non-funded drug treatment centres operating across the state.
Various issues and misunderstandings are frequently occurring among the owners of the private rehabilitation centres and the Social Welfare Department as the private rehabilitation centres are unable to stick to the guidelines which are meant for funded rehabilitation centres under a central government scheme, convenor of the committee Herojit Sagolshem said while speaking to the media in Imphal.
Sagolshem said that the non-funded treatment centres rely solely on the meagre monthly fees from the patients. So, the guideline meant for funded rehabilitation centres under a central government scheme on non-funded private drug treatment centres cannot be accepted by the private drug rehabilitation centres, he added.
Pointing out that there are some de-addiction centres which do not follow any specific norms, he said the committee is unable to act against some de-addiction centres that run illegally for their personal benefits as the committee does not hold the law in their hands.
He lauded the state government for taking up legal action against the “Brightway de-addiction Resort” at Lambal Makha Leikai which runs illegally.
The committee further extended their gratitude to chief minister N Biren for his immense contribution in the “War on Drugs” to root out drug culture from Manipur.
