The Committee Against the Legal Notice by the IGAR(S) to Maheshwar Thounaojam on Thursday condemned the legal notice to Maheshwar Thounaojam by IGAR (South) and said a mass protest demonstration would be staged on September 2 to demand the withdrawal of the notice.
The committee has sought the support of the public in staging the protest at various pockets of the valley.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, committee chairman Benubala Maibam stated the IGAR’s legal notice against Maheshwar is an attempt to silence the suffering of Meitei community.
“Maheshwar has been voicing the truth about the suffering in Manipur on various national platforms. He has been vital in drawing national attention to the Manipur crisis and the IGAR’s legal notice against him is an attempt to silence the truth from spilling out,” she said.
She maintained that the protest demonstration would be staged on September 2 starting from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm.
The protest has been staged to challenge the "IGAR’s strong headed attitude and their attempt to flush out the voice of the people," she added.
She said only two slogans would be raised in the protest - withdrawal of the legal notice and removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur.
